Sonas mean “happy” in Irish and we are very happy that that we are able to open the eighty- first season of the Uckfield Muisc Club with these talented young musicians. The Sonas Quartet won first place in the St. James Chamber Prize at the Guildhall School, where they have been playing together since 2022 under the tutelage of Gary Pomeroy, from the Heath Quartet.
They are joined by Nicholas Carpenter, for a much anticipated performance of the Mozart Clarinet quintet. His recording of the Mozart Clarinet Quintet for EMI was the ‘Best Recording’ recommendation by BBC Radio 3 in ‘Building a Library’.
We remember Nicholas for the inspirational talk and demonstration of the clarinet family that he gave to the Music Club two years ago. Nick Carpenter is Principal Clarinet of the BBC Concert Orchestra and has been guest principal clarinet for all the major British orchestras.
