AirS Photography Competition winners announced

The winning entry in the 18+ category from Julie Ruse - Making a Mandala at Withyham Woods

Action in Rural Sussex (AirS) have announced the winners of their Photography Competition,

The competition encouraged local people to visit the beautiful Sussex woodlands.

The Lewes-based charity called on people to connect with nature, get creative and feel the benefits of time spent in the countryside.

Judging was undertaken by judges Shane Stanbridge, a wildlife photographer who last year was featured in the BBC Countryfile Calendar, and photographer Steve Lewis, author of the Lewes book “Our Street in Lockdown”, with assistance from Lewes photographer Carlotta Luke.

Steve said “Many people all over Sussex went out more to the countryside during Covid lockdowns. These lovely photos show us that the woods are a place of calm and wellbeing. Visiting woodlands is good both for our mental health and our physical health. That’s why we have to protect our lovely woods from overdevelopment”.

Under 10s winning entry from Felix Salter – "Balancing" at Wapsbourne Woods
11-17 winning entry from Miller Kew-Moss – Juvenile Buzzard at Plumpton
