A look at the local sporting action

Sussex Cricket have announced that former head coach Mark Robinson will join their coaching team on a short term basis ahead of the upcoming season, with the 58 year old having spent ten years in charge as the teams head coach before his departure in 2015, winning six major titles in the process. 

Lewes are in action at home against promotion hopefuls Cray Valley PM who sit in fourth place, while The Rooks currently find themselves in 13th, with the two sides drawing 0-0 in their previous clash back in February.

Elsewhere, and another important clash for Crowborough Athletic, with the second place side hosting fifth place Crawley Down Gatwick, with the two sides currently separated by six points, as AFC Uckfield Town welcome third from bottom Copthorne, while Jarvis Brook visiting TD Shipley.

In the Mid Sussex Leagues, Rotherfield are away against a midtable Holland Sports side, while Ridgewood play at home against Oxted & District in the Montgomery Cup semi finals, as Barcombe host second in their league Wivelsfield Green.

Meanwhile, Buxted are visiting Dormansland Rockets in the Stratford Cup semi finals, as Plumpton Athletic play at home against Ansty FC 2nd’s.

Lastly in the men’s, Newick face another big test in their title fight as they host Ditchling, hoping to increase their slender one point lead at the top of their division, while Hartfield can move closer to securing their own title when they visit Marle Park Wanderers.

And in women’s football, Sunday’s fixtures sees Lewes play at home against tenth place Billericay Town, while AFC Uckfield Town play their penultimate game of the season against Seaford Town at home.

Over to the men’s rugby, fourth place Crowborough are at home against a Beccehamian side they lead by a single point, while Heathfield & Waldron host league leading Ashford 2nd’s, as Uckfield in the Sussex Leagues host Brighton 2nd’s with their title already secured.

Finally in the women’s rugby on Sunday, title hopefuls Heathfield & Waldron are away against bottom of the league Pulborough, as Uckfield play at home against Worthing.
