Friday Sport Preview - (25th April 2025)

What's happening in local sport this weekend?

Sussex Cricket can make it four games unbeaten in their return to Division 1 of the County Championship but face a big test away in the form of Nottinghamshire, who currently sit top of the table level on points with Paul Farbace’s side.

In team news for Sussex now, and a big injury to Sean Hunt, who will miss the next three months with a muscle injury, while Danny Lamb is out with a minor shoulder issue, with 17-year-old Sussex Academy player Ollie Moore stepping in to the side.

While in football, Lewes will play their final game of the season at home against Cray Wanderers, with this being the last game for first team manager Craig Nelson before his departure to National League South side Tonbridge Angels.

Elsewhere, Crowborough Athletic play their final match of the regular season at home against Loxwood, before The Crows begin their promotion playoff campaign on Tuesday, while AFC Uckfield Town’s last match of the season sees them visit Godalming Town, having already confirmed they will finish the season in ninth.

In the Mid Sussex Leagues, Ridgewood will be hoping to end their season on a high as they welcome second from bottom Godstone, with Buxted continuing to clear their fixture backlog as they visit Seaford Town 2nd’s, while Maresfield Village take on Plumpton Athletic at home.

Lastly in the men’s, Newick will travel away to league runners up Scaynes Hill, having already secured the title last weekend, as did Hartfield, who host Scaynes Hill Reserves, and will be hoping to complete their unbeaten league season with just two left to play.

In women’s football, Lewes will play their final game of the season on Sunday, as they welcome MK Dons to the Dripping Pan, with a win securing The Rooks top half finish as the side currently sit in sixth. 

And finally in the bowls, Saturday’s fixtures sees Crowborough welcome Deanland in their opening Horam League fixture, while on Sunday Uckfield also get underway in the competition as they host Hailsham, with Crowborough playing at home against West Hoathly.
