The Town Council’s former Countryside Ranger Geoff Pollard sadly passed away in 2020, will have a bench to commerate him - it's due to be unveiled on Friday 13 May 2022 at 2.00pm
The engraved granite bench was created by local stonemasons and will be located in West Park Nature Reserve. The design and installation of the bench was funded by over 40 donations received from friends, family, local volunteers, partner agencies, residents, staff, councillors and Uckfield Town Council. Granite was selected as the preferred material due to its hard-wearing nature and will hopefully reduce the likelihood of vandalism; increasing longevity.
Geoff had worked for the Town Council for five and a half years and was responsible for carrying out practical conservation work in the town’s two local nature reserves (Hempstead Meadows and West Park), our ancient woodlands and sites of key wildlife and biodiversity such as Harlands Pond.
The Town Clerk said: “We are pleased to erect this bench in Geoff’s memory, in a place he loved to be. He was a much liked and valued colleague whose experience in using both traditional and modern methods of conservation management to encourage the co-existence of flora and fauna was appreciated by many in the town. Thank you so much to everyone for your donations and support, it has been really wonderful to see.”
The Town Council would be grateful if those attending, could confirm their attendance by emailing
townclerk@uckfieldtc.gov.uk or writing to Uckfield Town Council, Council Offices, Civic Centre, Uckfield, TN22 1AE.
This will help the Town Council to cater appropriately for refreshments onsite and provide everyone with the exact location of the memorial gathering, before the day as it will be a little walk into the nature reserve.
