This month’s Performance and Accountability Meeting (PAM) will be held on Friday 18 October at 13:00.

On the agenda for this month’s meeting is Neighbourhood Policing. The Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner will scrutinise Sussex Police on their performance of local policing within districts of Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex.

PCC Katy Bourne will raise questions about the number of police officers and PCSOs within Neighbourhood Policing Teams as well as ask how frequently these numbers are reviewed and amended on each district.

Sussex’s senior policing team will also be asked about a new initiative that sees all trainee officers being attached to Neighbourhood Policing Teams as part of their tutorship and initial training. PCC Bourne will ask what teams the officers are redeployed to once they reach independent patrol status and discuss how the Force have reflected on the new scheme.

With much of the feedback PCC Bourne hears from the public about wanting to see more officers on foot across local communities in Sussex, the Commissioner will ask Sussex Police about Operation Sunshine.

Op Sunshine was launched in July 2024 to try and get Neighbourhood Policing Teams back out on foot in key areas across Sussex. PCC Bourne will ask how many individuals and businesses has the Force engaged with since the operation began and what difference has this proactive engagement made? She will also scrutinise how Sussex Police will measure success of the operation.

Also on the agenda is Operation Apprentice, which was introduced to support Sussex Police in its response to tackle retail crime, identify prolific and repeat offenders and to assist them in the ongoing management of these high-harm individuals.

As the PCC National Lead for Business & Retail Crime, disrupting business and retail crime is a priority for Mrs Bourne both locally and nationally. The PCC will ask what positive results have been demonstrated so far and how prolific and repeat offenders are being targeted through the operation.

The full agenda for this month’s PAM is:
