The Proclamation of the new sovereign will take place on the steps of Eastbourne Town Hall at 4pm on Sunday, following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
It will be read by The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Pat Rodohan with local dignitaries in attendance including the Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council.
This traditional event takes place in towns and cities across the country to announce the accession which took place immediately after the Queen’s death. It represents one of the first occasions for people to gather and reflect on this moment in our nation’s history when the reign of our longest-serving monarch ended and our new sovereign succeeded.
A book of condolence has been opened at Eastbourne Town Hall reception and will remain open until the day after the funeral. People are welcome to leave messages in the book during office hours and also this weekend (September 9 and 10) from 10am to 4pm.
Anyone wishing to lay flowers in memory of the Queen can place these at the front of the Town Hall in Eastbourne in the marked area.
