A reminder for residents to know where to go if medical help is needed.
All health services in Sussex are extremely busy and there's a rise in people being admitted to hospital and attending emergency departments.
Local NHS services are asking for help to provide capacity (particularly in an emergency) to deal with situations where people need urgent help.
The following guidance has been provided:
Please only use A&E if it is an emergency – save A&E for saving lives
Use 111 in the first instance – they can advise, support and direct to the most appropriate service
Be patient with health and care staff, they are trying to keep people safe
Make use of walk in and minor injury services. The Uckfield Minor Injuries Unit, at Uckfield Hospital is open Monday to Sunday: 8.00am - 8.00pm (please note last booking is at 7:45pm)
The unit is run by emergency practitioners who are experienced, specialist nurses and paramedics who can assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of minor injuries and ailments for both adults and children. You do not need an appointment, but by calling 111, you may be given an arrival timeslot.
A spokesperson for NHS Sussex told us: “It is really important that people use the right services over the August bank holiday weekend, as we will likely see a further increase in demand for our services. Not only will this save yourself time as you will be treated by the most appropriate healthcare professional, but you will also be doing your bit to help the NHS get through another demanding period”.
