In the weekend’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town went down to a two-one defeat at home to Hassocks
Uckfield are back in action at the Oaks tomorrow evening, when they face Newhaven.
Despite being reduced to ten men, Crowborough Athletic earned a point from a one-all draw at Steyning. Crowborough are also in action tomorrow, when they visit Peacehaven and Telscombe.-
In the Mid Sussex League, Buxted lost their opening match, going down four-two at home to Ditchling.
In their first match of the new season, Lewes drew one-apiece at Wingate and Finchley in the Isthmian Premier Division.
And in the Premier League, Brighton and Hove Albion had to settle for a point from a goal-less draw with Newcastle at the Amex Stadium.
In local cricket, Uckfield Anderida were beaten by Dicker by 69 runs at the Victoria Ground. There was defeat too for Crowborough, who lost by five wickets at St Peters Brighton’s third eleven.
Meanwhile, Buxted Park opened up an 18 point lead at the top of the table after a six-wicket victory at home to Glynde and Beddingham. And Nutley remain top of their league following an exciting four-wicket win at Tunbridge Wells’ fourth team.
Elsewhere, there were victories for Barcombe, Rotherfield and Blackboys. And there were defeats for Isfield, Newick and Fletching.
Finally, Sussex’s county team had a resounding win over local rivals Surrey in their latest Royal London One-Day Cup match at Hove yesterday – Sussex came out on top by 216 runs.
