In the weekend’s local football, there was a terrific result for AFC Uckfield Town
It came as they won four-nil at Peacehaven and Telscombe in the Southern Combination League Premier Division.
Meanwhile, Crowborough Athletic earned a point from a hard-fought one-all draw at home to league leaders Newhaven.
And in Division Two, Jarvis Brook remain top of the table, following a one-nil victory at Ferring.
In the Mid Sussex League, Ridgewood were three-nil winners at West Hoathly, but Uckfield United lost their unbeaten record, going down four-three at home to Peacehaven and Telscombe’s third team.
Elsewhere, Rotherfield were beaten four-three by Cuckfield Rangers. Newick drew two-apiece with Nutley, while Barcombe won three-one at Portslade Athletic. And there were defeats for Buxted, Hartfield and Maresfield.
Meanwhile, in cup matches, there were wins for Fletching and Plumpton.
In a thrilling match in the Premier League, Brighton and Hove Albion drew three-all against Liverpool at Anfield.
Brighton’s ladies team lost three-two at Birmingham in the League Cup yesterday. And in the same competition, Lewes beat Charlton two-nil.
And AFC Uckfield Town Ladies team won their opening away game of the season with a four-nil victory at Pevensey and Westham.
Finally, in rugby union, Uckfield got back to winning ways with a 33 points to 24 win over Lewes at Hempstead Fields.
