Weekend Sporting Report

Both AFC Uckfield Town and Crowborough Athletic had their matches against Steyning and Hassocks respectively postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

The Mid Sussex League programme was also badly disrupted by the weather.  In games that did take place, Fletching were beaten two-one by Eastbourne Rangers Reserves.  Hartfield were two-nil winners over Ashurst Wood’s third team, while Plumpton won three-one at Athletico Burgess Hill.

There was disappointment for Lewes’s ladies team yesterday, as they went down to a three-one defeat by Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup in front of a sell-out crowd at the Dripping Pan  Brighton and Hove Albion’s ladies are through to the semi-finals after a two-nil victory at Birmingham.

Brighton’s men’s team have also reached the last four of the FA Cup following a comfortable five-nil win over Grimsby at the Amex Stadium.  The Seagulls have been drawn against Manchester United in the semi-final at Wembley.

Lewes’s men’s team moved to within three points of the play-off places in the Isthmian Premier Division after a two-one win at Folkestone.

In local rugby, Crowborough ended their league campaign on a high note with a 27-10 victory against second-in-the-table Bromley.
