AFC Uckfield Town got off to the perfect start under new manager John Kirby
It was the opening match of the league season, beating AFC Varndeanians 3-1, with two goals coming from Charlie Playford, while Crowborough Athletic similarly started the season strongly, beating Saltdean United also by three goals to one.
And in the cricket, Uckfield Anderida fell to a six wicket defeat to Selmeston and Alciston, while Crowborough lost to bottom of the league Laughton by 43 runs.
Elsewhere, Buxted Park earned a draw at home to Haywards Heath, Isfield lost by two wickets to Lewes Priory, and Plumpton & East Chillington earned only their third win this season as they beat Balcombe by 146 runs.
In the Division 5 East, Barcombe continued their hunt for the title, as they thrashed Fletching by an emphatic eight wicket margin, as they remain in third, eight points from first placed East Dean & Friston.
Meanwhile, Rotherfield suffered a major setback in their battle for first in the Division 9 East, losing by just one wicket to Robertsbridge as they dropped to second behind their opposition, while Nutley fell by five wickets to Bexhill’s 3rd XI.
Lastly in the cricket, Blackboys beat Pevensey’s 2nd XI by seven wickets, as Hadlow Down continued the push for their own title, beating Brighton & Hove’s 6th XI by 146 runs to move into second, only 11 points behind first, with a game in hand.
